End to End
A set play, from Sportplan, run on a full court with both teams on it. A goal keeper takes a backline throw-in from behind her own goal line, and nine passes later the ball is in the other circle. It is a pattern of play rather than a trick: the point is getting a team used to playing out from their own back line, so that every player knows where her option is before the ball arrives and nobody stands waiting to be found. The chain goes keeper to wing defence in the circle edge pocket, back square to the keeper as she drives onto the court, over the transverse line to the goal defence, through the centre and the goal attack, into the goal third to the wing attack, up to the goal shooter at the top of the circle, back out to the wing attack tight on the circle edge and in to the goal attack to shoot. The ball is caught in all three thirds and no pass crosses a whole one. The other seven are on court marking their own opposite numbers and are passive: they track and they never go for the ball, because when the run finishes they turn round and run the same play back from the other goal line. Fourteen players, one ball, no cones. The clip runs it once at full speed and then the finish again in slow motion from the corner.
Instructions
- The goal keeper starts behind her own goal line with the ball
- The wing defence breaks to the pocket beside her own goal circle and takes the throw-in
- The keeper steps onto the court and drives up it, and the wing defence gives it back square
- The goal defence shows over the transverse line and the keeper finds her
- Straight through the centre and the goal attack, still in the centre third
- The wing attack drives over the line into the goal third and the goal attack hits her
- The goal shooter comes up to the top of the circle for it and gives it straight back out
- The wing attack has swung round into the circle edge pocket, as tight to the line as she can get
- She feeds the goal attack in the circle, who lands, pivots and shoots
- The other seven mark their own opposite numbers and never go for the ball
Progressions
- The team that was marking takes the ball and runs the same play from the other goal line, so everybody does both jobs. Make the defence live rather than passive. Put two seconds on the ball so nobody has time to look for a second option.
