Wall Pass to Finish
The give-and-go. An attacker combines with a support player to beat a defender with a one-two, then finishes on goal. It teaches passing and moving instead of overdribbling. Played in front of a goal with a keeper: a defender in front of the box, a support player to one side of the defender, and a queue of attackers with the balls. The attacker passes out to the support player and immediately sprints forward, bursting past the defender into the space behind and calling for the return. The support player returns it first time into the space, ahead of the run, not to feet. The attacker takes a touch if needed and finishes low past the keeper, then jogs round to the back of the queue and the next one goes. Five or more players, an attacker, a support player, a defender, a keeper and a queue, on half a small pitch or a 20m by 25m area with a goal, 20 minutes.
Instructions
- A keeper in goal, a defender in front of the box, a support player to one side, a queue of attackers with the balls
- The attacker passes out to the support player and immediately sprints forward
- Burst past the defender into the space behind and call for the return
- The support player returns it first time into the space, ahead of the run. Take a touch if needed and finish low past the keeper
- Pass firmly and go, do not admire the pass
- Time the run to stay onside and burst as the ball is played
- Support player: open your body and return it first time into space, not to feet
- Finish across the keeper or into the far corner, low and early
Variation
- Add a recovering second defender to make the finish quicker. Limit the attacker to two touches after the return. Play it from wide so the return sets up a cross rather than a shot. Make it live: if the defender wins it they can counter to a small goal.
