Head Tennis
Tennis, but with a football. Two teams, one each side of a line, get the ball over into the other court. The ball can bounce once on your side before you must send it back over the line. Two bounces, out, or not clearing the line is a point to the other team, and the team that won the point serves next. 3v3 is ideal, and it works with smaller numbers too, 2v2 or 1v1. Use a small court split in half by a line, scaled to the age and numbers, with a low net if you have one, otherwise a row of cones. A brilliant, simple, fun game for working the first touch: a clean, controlled touch with the head, chest or a cushioned volley.
Instructions
- Two teams, one each side of the line. Serve the ball over into the other court
- The ball can bounce once on your side before you must send it back over the line
- Two bounces, out, or not clearing the line is a point to the other team
- The team that won the point serves next
- Soft, controlled touches to keep the ball playable, and talk and move to cover your side
Variation
- For the really young, a touch renews the bounce, so after a touch they get another bounce and more time on the ball. To make it harder: no bounce at all, straight back over, or a bigger court and smaller teams.
