Goal Kick: Short One-Two
A disguised long goal kick. The keeper rolls the ball out to a full-back dropping in towards them, the full-back returns it first time to the keeper's stronger foot with a smooth, well-weighted pass, and the keeper sends it long first time. The momentum of the returning ball is the whole point: a rolling ball travels further than a dead one, so the same kick gets a lot more distance. It also buys the disguise, because the opposition read the short exchange as a short build-up and step in, which is exactly when the long one goes over the top of them. It is especially useful the season a side moves up to under-9s and the pitch gets bigger than the keepers can yet clear on their own.
