Box Dribble
Four cones make a square about 5m by 5m. Players dribble all the way round it, doing a move at each corner, then hand over at the start cone and the next one goes. Simple, high-repetition close control and turning practice. Dribble the ball along each side of the square, keeping it close with small touches. At every cone do a move, an inside-foot turn or a change of direction, then set off down the next side. Slow down into the corner, then a positive touch out of the turn. Use both feet, and turn with the inside and the outside of the foot. Head up to see the next cone before you get there. Three or more per box, four cones per box and a ball each, 10 to 15 minutes.
Instructions
- Four cones in a square about 5m by 5m, a queue beside the start cone, a ball each
- Dribble along each side of the square, keeping the ball close with small touches
- At every cone do a move, an inside-foot turn or a change of direction, then set off down the next side
- Back at the start cone, hand the ball over and the next player goes
- Small, frequent touches down each side
- Slow down into the corner, then a positive touch out of the turn
- Use both feet, and turn with the inside and the outside of the foot
- Head up to see the next cone before you get there
Variation
- Call a specific move to use at every corner, a drag-back, an inside cut or an outside cut. Make the square bigger to add pace, or smaller for tighter control. Two boxes and race, but a clean lap only counts if every corner has a move. Reverse direction so they turn the other way.
